In the 1920s, the conflict between Britain and Ireland deepened, culminating in the Irish War of Independence. When Damian (Cillian Murphy), a medical student with a bright future, learns of the war's outbreak, he decides to join the army. He returns home and joins the IRA with his brother Teddy (Padraic Delaney) and best friend Dan (Liam Cunningha m). The young men, with their passion and tactical prowess, repeatedly defeat the Black and Brown militia employed by the British government. Their resistance forces the British to agree to a treaty, but this becomes a fork in the road where the former comrades go their separate ways. ......The film won the Palme d'Or at the 2006 Cannes Film Festival, the Best Cinematography Award at the 2006 European Film Festival, the Audience Award for Best Irish Film at the 2007 Irish Television and Film Awards, and the IFTA Awards for Best Supporting Actor (Liam Cunningham) and Best Film.
