Tito (Robert Downey Jr.) is an American writer based in Los Angeles. After 15 years of separation from his family, he finally made the journey home that he had been avoiding. Queens in Astoria, New York, in the 1980s. Young Tito (Shia LaBeouf) has been through some tough times. His quarrels and breakups with his family, his loyalty and betrayal with his girlfriend, Laurie (Melonie Diaz). He watched his best friends die one by one, dying of drugs and prison. Tito is always trying to keep himself from being hurt, and to find his way through the chaos of family, race, loyalty, sex, and violence. Little by little, Tito began to believe in the power of God to keep him alive.
