The story follows teenage Norman (Freddie Highmore), his brother (Max Thieriot) and mother (Vera Farmiga) who move to the town to attend a local high school. He meets Richard (Richard Harmon), a big shot who hates his high school, and Emma (Olivia Cooke), an eccentric but passionate girl. His teacher and psychological consultant Miss Watson (Keegan Connor Tracy) has given him a lot of help. Norman and his mother seem to have had a strange and different relationship.
