The movie is set at the end of the English Wars of the Roses and tells the story of the Tudor period in England. Richard III, King of York, a longtime rival of the Lancaster royal family, died at the Battle of Bosworth Plain, and his nephew, Richard IV, took over and ruled for many years.Richard IV was blessed with two sons, the eldest, Harry, Prince of Wales (Robert East), who was expected to be the heir to the throne, is a madman. The younger son, Prince Edmund (Rowan Atkinson), is clumsy, stupid and arrogant, and is disdained by the royal family as well as the entire household. But it is this Prince Edmund, who calls himself "Blackadder the First," who is trying to take the throne from his father and brother. With the help of his two attendants, Percy (Tim McInnerny), a foolish nobleman who is the only one who respects him, and Baldrick (Tony Robinson), a clever peasant, they set out on what seems to be a grand plan to seize the throne.
