The story of Patrick Braden (Cillian Murphy), a transvestite boy in the 1970s, who never changes himself and keeps searching for his mother in an environment that suffers from social stigma. Patrick was abandoned by his parents as a baby and then adopted by a priest (Liam Neeson). But he grew up wearing girls' clothes and imagining he was a girl. He had no idea who his mother really was, much less where she was now. When Patrick grows up, he wears a blond wig and heavy female makeup. He refuses to let anyone change him, but he doesn't know how this harsh environment can tolerate such an "alien". Along the way, Patrick meets all kinds of strangers and searches for his mother.
