In 1941, Polish immigrant Leonard Chase (Adrien Brody) makes his mark by running a bar. At this time, McKinley Morganfield (Jeffrey Wright), a sharecropper from Mississippi, comes to Chicago alone with a musical dream and a guitar. On the street, he meets walter Jr., a talented 17-year-old harmonica player. The two hit it off and start singing in chase's bar. An ambitious Chase used his intuitive and business acumen to start Chess Records, a hugely successful record label for Waters. During the period of running Chase Studio, Chase was able to recruit musical talents and bring forth a large number of singers who had a profound influence on the American music scene.
