In Detroit in the '60s, Tina (Beyonce Knowles), Efe (Jennifer Hudson) and Laurel (Anika Noni Rose) form the "Dream" group. They are determined to pursue a singing career in talent shows. However, they are disappointed by the result of the competition, but they are seen by manager Curtis (Jamie Foxx), ambitious to make them into marketable pop singers.Thus, the three girls began to set foot on the unknown star road. Mr. Curtis devised a plan for them, harmonized with the big names on stage, and then repositioned the three members of the group to perform on their own -- Effie, the best singer but not the most beautiful, was removed as lead vocalist, and Tina, the more attractive, took the lead. This caused a storm within the group. The relationship between the three singers began to become more complicated on the way to fame, and the feud between Effie and Curtis also became intertwined.
