Based on true events, an energetic teenage girl named Sarah looks forward to her 18th birthday so she can leave her controlling father Don (Judd Nelson) behind. But before she blows out the candles, Don locks her up in the basement of their home, and her world becomes very dark. When Don tries to convince his wife Erin (Joely Fisher) Sarah to run away, he sneaking in to visit her in the basement, torturing and raping her, while Erin and her sister Amy (Emily Top) continue to live upstairs. As the years passed, Sarah gave birth to several children and was alone in the basement. Don eventually raises their youngest son, leaving him on the doorstep, where Erin finds him and a note from Sarah saying that he is her son and that she can't care for him, and Erin finally accepts Don's version of Sarah's story. After decades of captivity, Sarah finally escaped, and her family learned the devastating truth about what had happened at their feet for 20 years.
