The film tells the story of the last days of Hollywood director James Whale (Ian McKellen) in 1957. The director, who created one of the most frightening characters in cinema history, Frankenstein, has retired from the film industry and is now studying painting, while still dating men in his spare time. When housekeeper Hannah (Lynn Redgrave) hires a new gardener, the hunky ex-marine Boone (Brendan Fraser), Will's interest gradually shifts all the way to Boone. Will approaches Boone like a spider crawling towards a fly, leading the latter step by step into an elaborate trap. It turns out that although Will has stopped making films, since meeting Boone, he finds that Boone is very similar to Frankenstein, the protagonist of his film - a man of few words, simple and incomprehensible. Will feels that he can't cool the love in his heart, and only Boone can relieve his pain. His plan is to lure Boone into eventually killing him, so that he can personally realise the most perfect film plot of his life. ......
