In 1792, the Catholic Church, which holds supreme power in Spain, reopened the Inquisition to control civil unrest in an effort to stem the tide of the French Revolution. The monk Lorenzo (Javier Bardem) is the leader of the movement. Twistful as he was, he managed to hold supreme power over the Inquisition. Court painter Francisco Goya (Stellan Skarsgard) is a friend of Lorenzo's. Because of a model Ines (Natalie Portman), Goya was imprisoned in the Inquisition, subjected to a variety of torture, he asked Lorenzo to save Ines, who was the hypocrisy of Lorenzo raped Ines, and put her into a secret dungeon.Twenty years later, things changed.
