The film consists of nine short films with different plots, each of which is 12 minutes long, and follows the lives of nine women of different ages at important stages in their lives. The film is made up of nine women's stories: Sandra, the prisoner, takes it upon herself to clean up, hoping to behave well, but the guards do nothing about it. When visiting the prison, she loses her temper because the microphone fails to communicate with her daughter. In the supermarket, pregnant mother Dai met with the former lover, want to talk back, infinite sense of loss; Black Holly back home, sister to call dad back, hoping to make an end; Pregnant Sonia (Holly Hunter) shows her boyfriend around his friend's new house in hopes of making their relationship better. The father gets help from his daughter Samantha in the crossword puzzle, but samantha's love affair is always on his mind. When attending someone's dead wife's funeral, the three of them are separated because their daughter Rona is having an affair with the deceased's husband. Under the stars, Ruth smiles and spends the night with her old lover. At the hospital, Camille, the patient, was grumbling. In the cemetery, grandmother Maggie and granddaughter Maria (Dakota Fanning) sit on the ground and reflect on life...
