In 1957, the Soviet satellite launch was a success and the American public sprouted a sense of crisis. Homer (Jake Gyllenhaal), an ordinary high school student in a small mining town, is worried about his future at the moment. Having lost in the team tryouts, while his physically strong brother has been more recognized by his father John (Chris Cooper), Homer, not willing to settle for mediocrity, develops the idea of making rockets, and with the support of his teachers and friends.
