Mr. Chum (Robert Redford), an old carpenter, likes to tell his children a story about dragons that live in the dense jungle of the Pacific northwest. Her daughter, grace (Bryce Dallas Howard), dismisses the story her father has told a million times, believing it to be his own.By chance, grace meets a boy named Peter (Oakes Fegley), who tells her that he has no family and no home, and his only friend is a dragon named elliot. Peter's narration reminds grace of her father's story, and there are striking similarities between the two. In order to confirm Peter's words, grace embarks on a journey to find the dragon.
