In 1888, Victorian London was thrown into a cloud of fear and suspicion when a series of murders of at least a dozen prostitutes took place in the area of Whitechapel, located in the East End of London. The murderer, codenamed Jack the Ripper, wrote to the police several times during the crime, but never fell into the net of justice.
