Rudy (Sean Astin) is a football fanatic and a big fan of Notre Dame. Rudy, who wanted to go to Notre Dame after high school, gave up because of his poor grades and went to work in a steel mill. On his 22nd birthday, friends gave him a coat with the university of Notre Dame logo on it and encouraged him to realize his dream. Hit by his best friend's accidental death at a steel mill, Rudy ditches his proposed girlfriend and embarkes on a train to Notre Dame. After entering the university, he studied and practiced very hard. With his strong fighting spirit, he was selected by the coach as the substitute camp of the school team, but he never had the chance to play. Finally in a key moment of an important game substitute, helped the team win the game. Parents and family members were also excited.No one from Notre Dame has been lifted on the spot since 1975. Rudy graduated from the university of Notre Dame in 1976. His five younger brothers went to college and graduated.
