Richard (Leonardo DiCaprio), a young American with a love of surfing and adventure, arrives in Bangkok, Thailand one day in search of the paradise beach he learned about on the Internet. At the cheap hotel where he stays, he meets Franoise (Virginie Ledoyen), a French girl, and her boyfriend, and the three become friends.Richard gets some strange-sounding secrets from the creepy bald guy, and then the bald guy leaves a mysterious map and dies unexpectedly, which arouses Richard's curiosity. After some tracing according to the map, he is convinced that the beach does exist and starts to convince Franoise and her boyfriend to go with him to find the beach, and makes a copy of the map for another American friend he knows to go exploring.After overcoming all the difficulties, Richard arrives at the suspected beach paradise, but all they see before them is a huge field of marijuana and Thai farmers with guns. The arrival of the three Richard's people causes the Thai farmers to warn Sal that no more people are allowed on the beach.
