Loosely based on Spielberg's life story, the story focuses primarily on the hero's formative years and his relationship with his parents, whose names are not Steven, but like him, live in Phoenix, Arizona. Spielberg lived in Phoenix in the late 1950s and early 1960s, making home movies and adventure films with his father's 8mm camera while confronting anti-Semitism. The Spielberg family moved to California during high school, and then his parents divorced and he lived with his father, with whom he had a tense relationship that became his inspiration for creating films.
