Detective Inspector Gerry Boyle (Brendan Gleeson) of County Galway, Dublin, Ireland, cleans up the mess of a drug addict's violent death in a car accident, and welcomes a new agent, McBride, who reports for duty, as they survey the crime scene and deduce the type of killer from the evidence, but unfortunately, the two men think very differently. Boyle's thinking is so bizarre that McBride is completely baffled. They interrogate a suspect together, only to discover that he is a fall guy and the real killer is still at large. Boyle is a cynical but dutiful man who tries to cheer up his mother as she approaches the end of her life. In order to crack a $500 million black market drug smuggling case, FBI Agent Wendell (Don Cheadle) begins to analyze the case for the officers, but is repeatedly interrupted by Boyle, just as his superiors are about to fire Boyle, the latter pinpoints the biggest hole in the report - the fact that one of the four suspects has already been arrested. -One of the four suspects is already lying in the morgue. Wendell is impressed by Boyle, who jokes about racism. When McBride is accidentally killed in the line of duty by a Philosophy Fan gangster, his wife comes to the door looking for her husband, making Boyle feel a great sense of responsibility, and he and Wendell embark on a journey to apprehend the murderer...
