Tells the story of an absurd news story in a small English seaside town in the 1920s, where local Edith Swann and Irish immigrant Ross are neighbors, and when Edith and the other residents begin to receive anonymous letters, Ross is thought to be the one who started it all. However, when the women of the town, led by police officer Gladys Moss, begin to investigate the incident on their own, they notice that something is not right, and that Ross may not be the culprit after all.
