Charles Farmer (Billy Bob Thornton), a former U.S. Air Force veteran with a degree in aerospace engineering, is expected to become an astronaut, but a sudden accident prevents him from realizing his childhood dream of flying. After retirement, Farmer built his own rocket behind closed doors, and wanted to fly into space all by himself. In his space suit, Farmer was already a celebrity in town, but no one believed he could succeed, and the bank frequently threatened to seize his property and land for failing to pay his loans. Farmer's rocket building caught the attention of the FBI and was banned from building it, so Farmer contacted the media to build his own publicity, hoping to break the government's block. Farmer's plan always get his wife and a son and two daughters, old father-in-law's support, family and a few friends gave him all aspects of help, finally, farmer regardless of the government threat, pressed the rocket launch button...
