Single Lars (Ryan Gosling) feels lonely and bored in the freezing snow. He is a typical homebody with a closed personality and no friends and no company. His older brother Gus (Paul Schneider) and his sister-in-law (Emily Mortimer) live next door and find it poignant. His sister-in-law saw that he was staying at home all day and invited him to dinner, but his elder brother and sister-in-law's warm and caring still did not help.
