Max (Dustin Hoffman) was once a rising star in the news business when a mistake on the job punished him with a demotion, and he has since been sent to a remote town as a small-town reporter broadcasting inconsequential news every day.One day, Max is interviewing at a museum when a man named Sam (John Travolta) holds up the museum's director at gunpoint. As it turns out, Sam was a former museum employee who lost his job in a layoff, and unable to accept the reality of the situation, he chooses to express his anger in extreme ways. Soon, the sensitive Max realizes that he may be able to use the accident to salvage his reputation in journalism, and the ambitious man immediately begins his work. As Max broadcasts, more and more media and journalists gather around the museum, and soon, events spiral out of control.
